MTV Staying Alive Foundation Empowers With A Powerful Message

MTV Staying Alive Foundation Empowers With A Powerful Message

Mission:  “We will protect the next generation by investing in them; we will give them the power to use their voices, their experiences; to influence their own universes.”

Even though it was too late for me to attend the 20th anniversary gala for MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation, I am so delighted to be given the opportunity to review the pictures and write about the post-event recap. The inspirational gala took place on Tuesday November 27, 2018 at Guastavino’s in New York City and it celebrated 20 years of campaigning, research while empowering young people in the fight to end HIV. MTV Staying Alive Foundation serves as a full force in the worldwide fight against AIDS through community outreach, and providing funding for innovative youth programs all while providing awareness 24/7.

ABOUT MTV STAYING ALIVE FOUNDATION:

The MTV Staying Alive Foundation is an international content-producing and grant giving organization dedicated to expanding sexual/reproductive health and rights and stopping the spread of HIV among young people. The Foundation creates and distributes challenging and entertaining HIV-prevention content across MTV channels in nearly 180 countries around the world and with third-party broadcasters. Alongside this, the MTV Staying Alive Foundation grants program finds and funds young people who are tackling the HIV epidemic in their communities.

To date, MTV Staying Alive Foundation has distributed more than $6 million in grants to youth-led organizations globally. Through investing in young leaders, the foundation has facilitated the distribution of over 9.7 million condoms, reached more than 3.8 million young people directly about HIV, and HIV-tested over 270,000 young people in 72 countries. The MTV Staying Alive Foundation is registered as a UK charity and as a 501c3 charitable organization in the United States.

In honor of the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day, I am more compelled to be writing this post about an organization that has provided 20 years of impact to the betterment of people globally. The gala raised nearly $600,000 towards the fight to end HIV/AIDS and that was more than the expected goal for the event. These funds will go towards the foundations mission to continue educating young people in the fight. We have to continue the fight against the stigma associated with AIDS by providing education and resources to people. My goal for next year is to attend this beautiful event.
