TOP 7 BEST THINGS TO DO IN VENICE ITALY

Stroll in Venice alleyways.

Hey you, let me take you on my latest adventure!

As one of the world's greatest cities for art, architecture, and history, you could spend an inordinate amount of time discovering Venice. Losing yourself in Venezia's charm is easy, but there are an endless number of bucket list activities and century-old landmarks to see while you're there.

In this post, I am sharing the top 7 best things to do in Venice, Italy. Now this list is solely based on my opinion and experiences, but I hope it will help you if you plan on visiting Venice one day.

What’s Venice without a gondola ride?

1) Gondola Rides on the Canal Grande are a must. You can book a shared tour or go to Venice and book one the same day. You won’t have any trouble finding a private gondola ride. The gondoliers will approach you at numerous canals and bridges to ask if you want a ride. For half an hour it is about 90 euros. This was one of the most relaxing rides ever. I almost took a nap and my gondolier serenaded me and my sister with his Italian charm :)

2) Visit the Basilica di San Marco (St. Marks Basilica). St. Mark's Basilica is significant for its religious importance as the resting place of Saint Mark. Entry used to be free, but is now 3 euros. And the lines are long to enter, however entry is quick. This iconic church is one of Venice's most-visited sights and one amongst Italy's top cathedrals. It is an absolute must-see once you step foot in Venice!

3) Try Some authentic Italian Food. Are you looking forward to know what you should eat in Venice? You can find good and authentic food all around Venice even if you are on a budget. Keep in mind: The three main kinds of places where to eat in Venice are: restaurants, pizzerie, and bacari. A pizzeria in Italy is a restaurant specialized in making homemade pizza—duh. And, bacari, traditional wine bars, offer delicious traditional fingerfood called “cichetti” and small glasses of wine called “ombre”, at a very affordable price. My sister and I tried almost everything—it was great, but we weren’t so fond of the touristy spots.

Overlooking Murano.

4) Tour Murano and Burano Island. Murano and Burano are two of the most popular day trip destinations on a trip to Venice. Just take the vaporetto (water taxi) from Venice. I was attracted to Murano for the beautiful glass, jewelry and Burano for the bright buildings that were painted by the locals. The story behind Burano is that the fishermen were afraid they wouldn’t be able to find their home in the dense fog that could come over the Venetian lagoon. So, they painted the houses bright colors to find their way home. Now, the tradition continues. And, it makes a beautiful backdrop for exploring. Both islands were fun to explore!

All the beauty in Burano.

Colorful Burano.

5) Visit The Bridge of Sighs. Is there anyone who can resist the enchanting charms of Venice's most iconic bridge? This Venice’s most famous bridge and most photographable. The view is amazing!!! Why it’s Called the Bridge of Sighs: the story entails that the bridge got its name to the weary sighs of prisoners catching one last spectacular glimpse of Venice and the Grand Canal from the windows as they made their way towards the courtrooms or the prison cells and never returned.

Epic views.

6) Get Around on the Vaporetto. The vaporetto’s are the public ferries that run down the Grand Canal. They are the main form of public transport in Venice, and views from the boat are out of this world. Best of all, they are good value. We purchased a day pass for one of our long tour days which was about 20 euros each. Please don’t use these boats as a form of tourist atttraction moments. There are locals who take it for their everyday life in Venice—and we wouldn’t want to be rude to the locals.

Hey!! All the way from Venice.

7) Find a Supermarket! There are plenty of supermarkets dotted around the city. We went to one called—Coop. Supermarkets in Venice offer a blend of tradition and modern convenience, but finding them amidst the labyrinthine streets and waterways can be an adventure. Our hotel was located in Murano and there was a Coop right by. This was a blessing because I had heartburn—-which was not a pleasant feeling. Maybe going shopping at a local supermarket is not the first thing you come up with when staying in a hotel. But, sometimes, you don't have breakfast at your hotel or hostel and you need a grocery run.

This trip had me in awe of the beauty of Venice. It was the most amazing 5 days and I didn’t want it to end. Hope you love the post. Ciao!!!
